President Legal Aid Forum for Human Rights (LAFH) Chitral Abdul Nasir Saturday alleged that 'some trading mafia' were trying to fail Lawari tunnel project in order to sell their items of daily use, dumped by them at higher rates ahead of the closure of the Lawari pass during heavy snowfall.

In a statement here, he said dealers and hoarders used to stock goods before closing of the Lawari top, and sell the essential commodities on a high rate. But this year, all the edible and required things are being transported through the tunnel therefore, the trading mafia does not like this routine as they have dumped edibles to sell out at a high rate, like the previous years, he added. They are motivating people not to travel via the tunnel and travel through Kunar Afghanistan route for their journey, he alleged.

Nasir cautioned against the conspiracy and demanded of the Federal government and high-ups of the National Highway Authority, not to close the tunnel for Chitrali passengers, because inhabitants of Chitral easily can travel inside the tunnel, while carrying essential commodities. He threatened to take it to the streets if the hidden hands were not stopped. He thanked NHA for constructing the tunnel for the Chitrali passengers who can reach Dir within a few hours.
